Generic election question
Does anyone know, off the top of their head, where the dates for the election, and for the inauguration are set? Are both actually set in the Constitution itself?

No, but I wiki'ed it. Inauguration is in the Constitution (20th amendment), election day is a 1845 law.

And it's on a Tuesday so people have a day to travel to their county seat to vote after the Sabbath, and it's never the 1st because that's All Saints' Day, a Catholic holy day. Nice to see Catholics enshrined in election law. :)

What would be awesome would be if we could paint our door frame with sheep's blood to ward away the door to door brigades on election day.

I was in VA for the election, and no fewer than 5 people came by before we put up a sign pointing out (somewhat irreverently, but in a way that hopefully would make them laugh) that the residents in that particular house had already voted.

I think that'd work pretty damn well, divine intervention or not.

As one of those door-knockin' folks, I approve of irreverent "don't bother - we already voted" signs. :)

Constitution directs that Congress may by law fix a date for the national election, the most recent incarnation of which statute is the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. The presidential term is fixed by the Constitution itself.
