Getting rich from other peoples' scams
According the Skyline Gaming Group (which does not exist) I am due quite a sum of money thanks to unclaimed prizes from some of their lotteries!

I cannot speak my excitement in any of the tongues of man or beast.

Now, I wonder how far they will go to try and get me to cough up the money they're trying to scam me out of. This should be fun... More soon if I get anywhere.

Update: Please refer to http://www.fbi.gov/ to file a complaint with the FBI if you have received such a letter. Also, you may read them at:

FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Federal Bureau of Investigation
J. Edgar Hoover Building
935 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, D.C. 20535-0001
(202) 324-3000

Their local branches are available at http://www.fbi.gov/contactus.htm.

Another update: I am now screening/deleting redundant, incomprehensible, or illegible comments. Please check that your questions have not already been answered elsewhere in this post, and please post intelligently.

We also received such a mailing, and even had to go to the post office to pick up the oversize envelope in which they sent the information. Thanks for confirming out suspicion that this is a scam. I think the US Postal System needs to be notified that an unscrupulous group is using the postal system illegally.

Their fraud division, yes, or the FBI, which is where I intend to go.

If you want to find out why "Skyline Gaming Group" only revealed my blog on the search, instead search for the phrase "unclaimed funds random drawing". They change their name often, I'm sure.

Please do not spam - I have deleted your other duplicate posts, including the ones in all caps. Posting in semi-readable sentences would also be a good idea. It is not that much harder put in a period here and there, and writing "check" instead of "chq" is really not difficult. Do not post in all caps.

What happens is that you deposit the check and send them a check in return. They deposit yours, then they put a stop on their own - you are out the money you sent them (and they quickly disappear) and probably stuck with a bounced check fee as well.

I received a "Skyline Gaming Group" letter

I received a letter last week from Peterborough, ON . I called the toll free number and talked to "Kate Lynch" at extentsion 83. She told me I would have to send $2397.48 to cover taxes. They sent me a check for $2600.00 to cover the expenses. I told her I would not send any money until the $2600 check clears first. I asked "Kate" if this is a scam, and she assured me it is legitimate. I am probably going to contact the Missouri Attorney General.

Naturally she would assure you it is legitimate. She could hardly tell you it was a scam, right? In any case, please do contact the attorney general's office! That is the right thing to do.

100% Scam-o-rific. Do not deposit the check, do not in any case send them any money. Contact the FBI or your state's attorney general. The proper place to go, I believe, is at http://www.ic3.gov/.
